Hardy Fox – S/T
Chill out with some cool vinyl on this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog!!!
In October 2017 HARDY FOX publicly announced that he was “Charles Bobuck” and had been one of the secret composers for the anonymous art group, The Residents. Four months later he released his first album under his real name after 45 years of secrecy. A very personal album of minimalist electronic love songs with somewhat shy vocals. Unfortunately, in Sept 2018 Hardy posted his own obituary in advance to his own impending passing, he died of brain cancer on Oct 30th. Since music never dies, his friends over at SECRET RECORDS have released a limited edition of hand-numbered copies on colored vinyl with a golden flexi 7”! Find out more over at SECRET RECORDS…

Hailing from Los Angeles, THE BRIGGS got their start in the early 2000’s street punk/Oi! scene. THE BRIGGS song “This Is LA” is best known for its use as the Los Angeles Kings fight song. Though the song wasn’t written for this purpose it’s been adopted by nearly every LA sports team in their stadiums. ‘Numbers’ is the first official release from THE BRIGGS in 2002. Produced by Duane Peters and originally released on Duane’s lab,”Numbers” has never been available on vinyl until now on THE BRIGGS’ own label THIS IS LA RECORDS!
In a world where dissident writers are drawn and quartered, communists wear Rolexes, and Trump drives around with a fridge-full of blood; TROPICAL FUCK STORM’S new single is testament to the jester’s duty. “The Planet of Straw Men” revives TROPICAL FUCK STORM’s art-punk manoeuvres with a political snarl that pulls your head in, without calling you out. TROPICAL FUCK STORM have made a song and dance of diplomacies cheap-suit delusions of grandeur. Get yours from JOYFUL NOISE RECORDINGS or catch them on their upcoming tour!
One of the most striking hard rock bands of the 1970’s was undoubtedly Angel – who sported costumes and a highly theatrical stage show only rivaled by KISS. Despite Angel splitting in 1981, the group’s popularity and influence remain high – resulting in the recent return of their larger-then-life guitarist, PUNKY MEADOWS, with his first-ever solo release, “Fallen Angel”. ANGEL was a headline act in the US, and was featured performing live in the 1980 cult classic film, Foxes (starring a then-teenage Jodie Foster, Cherie Currie, and Scott Baio), they were also one of the biggest rock bands of the 1970’s in Japan. This limited edition Red Vinyl was remastered for Vinyl by Alan Douches (Fleetwood Mac, Yes, Pete Townshend, etc…) and features additional bonus material not on the original release. Catch PUNKY MEADOWS on tour with Angel starting April 2019!
Your phone, your TV, your computer – who (or what) is watching you? It’s an oft-asked question in the digital age, and one that THE PARANOYDS echoed when it comes to the origins of their name. THE PARANOYDS debut release on SUICIDE SQUEEZE offers a taste of the band’s snarling, over-it-but-totally-into-it sounds, moving from dirty surf-pop guitar jams to a sultry doomsday slow dance fit for the end of the night or the end of the world. Featuring the songs “Hungry Sam” b/w “Trade Our Sins”, go see THE PARANOYDS who just started their US tour this week!
San Diego‘s SECRET FUN CLUB has been the longstanding musical outlet for drummer and engineer Sal Gallegos and bassist John Rieder. An ongoing collaboration that formerly included guitarist Nathan Joyner the band has been making odd, challenging, and relentlessly heavy music on its own terms since 2000. SECRET FUN CLUB’s latest release once again show that these two have mastered the art of auditory experimentation. Fluctuating between moments of scientific static worthy of alien airwaves to seemingly straightforward jazz punctuated by soothing vibraphone and just-slightly-off time signatures that feel like a calm descent into madness.
