Fury – “Failed Entertainment”
Get your eyes ready to be blasted with colors on this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog!!!
Orange County’s FURY just released “Failed Entertainment”, their second full-length album and their first for Boston-based RUN FOR COVER RECORDS. Following early shows and the bedroom recordings that would become their demo tape, the band signed to tastemaker hardcore label Triple B Records. Since 2013 they’ve released multiple tapes, an EP, and their genre-pushing, critically acclaimed album Paramount. “Failed Entertainment” takes the band’s talent for soundtracking the human condition to a new, elevated plane. Rather than the short, intense bursts of energy that earlier releases delivered, songs here are given more space to contort in strange new shapes. Find out more info at RUN FOR COVER!

Drawing musical influence from crooners like Johnny Mathis and Eddy Arnold and literary witticisms of Randy Newman, THE CHROME BOUQUET’s deadpan vocal delivery laid atop jazzy chord movements on “Bricklayer” helps us ponder this existential crisis. Listening to THE CHROME BOUQUET makes us wonder if, despite feelings of defeat, it might be ok to wade in the banality of the day-to-day.

CARMINE is always on tour with either with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Appice Brothers, King Kobra, Blue Murder, etc, so get out there if you can!
“Bedtime Stories” is the sophomore EP from New Jersey instrumental rockers SAWCE who have been independently releasing their own music since 2017. In the short time they’ve been around SAWCE has amassed a well-deserved following. Bedtime Stories” is a short but extremely sweet blend of math and prog rock, the EP still maintains accessibility for fans of all types of music. Vinyl is available now from CIRCUIT BORED RECORDS or from the band on their upcoming tour which runs throughout the month of June!
BOTANIST formed in 2009 as a one-man project. Most of the records are recorded by one person, expanding in 2013 to have a live act that has done international tours. BOTANIST is most noted for being a metal band with no guitars, instead, the project uses hammered dulcimers as its main melodic instrument. “Hammer of Botany” was originally released as an EP on CD only to support a European tour in 2015, and sold at shows. It’s been re-issued in 2019 on CD and LP with a 13-minute bonus track to make it a full-length album. They just got back from Japan, but stay tuned as new tours are always coming!
Formed in London in 2012 out of the expatriated ashes of French psychedelic rock band Soul Manifest, heavy psych trio BRIGHT CURSE is known for riffing epic spectrums of dark/light through extended jams and out-and-out doom. After establishing themselves on European festival stages at Hellfest, DesertFest Berlin and Keep it Low, and following the dissolution of their former label, the band has teamed up with chief purveyors of riff-driven heaviness RIPPLE MUSIC to release their new album. “Time of the Healer” is the band’s second album overall and first for RIPPLE MUSIC, available on all formats worldwide. BRIGHT CURSE seem intent on defying expectations and weaving much more than meets the eye into new album ‘Time of the Healer,’ like the beautiful brass passages on the title track and the riveting, quiet, filled with jazz-y notes passage nearer its end.
