Family always forges the strongest bonds. That’s certainly the case when it comes to music as well. Steeped in a hard rock swing, brash punk energy, metallic bombast, and a healthy helping of death rock, CALABRESE established a diehard following and garnered immense critical praise outside of the traditional system, emerging as underground luminaries from their native Phoenix, AZ. Tastemakers from Alternative Press and Guitar World to Metal Hammer, Rue Morgue, Fangoria, and Rock Sound have featured them. The trio has shared the stage with the likes of Tiger Army, The Misfits, She Wants Revenge, Wednesday 13, Nekromantix, and more. Grab your copy of ‘Flee The Light’ from SPOOKSHOW RECORDS!
Family. That’s what comes to mind when describing the music on “Greene Street Vol. 1”, the follow up to WILL SELLENRAAD’S “Balance”. Known for his brilliant improvisations and his compelling, melodic compositions, SELLENRAAD is a mainstay on the NYC scene, and beyond, appearing at storied jazz venues such as The 55 Bar, Smalls, Mezzrow, The Blue Note, Birdland, The Iridium, the former Sweet Basil and many others. Volume 2 is already in the conception stage so keep an eye out for that and head over to DEKO MUSIC in the mean time!
Now on their 20th release, IOU RECORDS dug into the archive to pull out their long sold out first release, METHOD OF DOUBT’s debut 7”, ‘Accepting What We Know’! A melodic and passion driven record that perfects a contemporary take on classic hardcore, METHOD OF DOUBT will be playing the Mid West and Texas later on this year as well as doing a west coast tour the beginning of next year. Make your way to IOU RECORDS, the South Florida based hardcore label that’s known for bringing attention to underground bands from their area.
Ouroboros Boys was formed in 2012 by Sean Dail (Aleuchatistas) and Nicholas Marshall. The idea was to evoke a thick mood sans vocals and lyrics. Their inspiration came from the swirling space-noise of Hawkwind, the jagged angles formed in the guitar lines of the Wipers and Rudimentary Peni, the otherness of Martin Denny, the sweetness of Santo and Johnny Farina and of course the explosive twang of Man or Astroman. Exotica for our modern living and dying world. “Mall of Horrors” is their second full-lenth album, only available on vinyl through the band and regional record stores currently. In typical Ouroboros Boys fashion, “Mall of Horrors” delivers a distinct mix of neo-instrumental surf, psychedelic space-rock and cinematic scoring. MoH is however heavier and more layered than previous releases- leaning more heavily on synthesizers, sampling, percussion and musical arrangements more closely associated with prog or even post-rock. It’s dark and weird and full of depth. Stay tuned as they are working up some shows as we speak!
Not too far from MEDICAL RECORDS headquarters in Seattle, resides Josh Rose aka DERIVATIVES in Vancouver, BC. Known for intense live hardware sets, DERIVATIVES has been making waves in the Pacific Northwest playing alongside multiple notable producers who have toured the area. MEDICAL RECORDS / TRANSFUSIONS are excited to showcase the long awaited return of DERIVATIVES. Just as a challenging equation stimulates the mind, these four cuts will carry you through the provocative landscapes and exercise your analytical cogs with precision and grace. Waveforms and beats are the currency of trade and from the speculations on these dubbed out honing missiles, good times are ahead. Buy low and never sell.
