V/A – “Pure Noise Tour Split”
You can always count on the RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog to help you start your weekend!!!
PURE NOISE RECORDS turns 10 years old this year after having started in the Bay Area in 2009. 10 years later and now based in Los Angeles, the label has a growing roster of over 40 artists spanning genres from hardcore to alternative to pop and everything in between. This record, meant to celebrate the 10th anniversary tour going on right now, is a split album of new songs from five of the label’s hardcore acts including TERROR, STICK TO YOUR GUNS, and COUNTERPARTS along with new signings SANCTION and YEAR OF THE KNIFE. Only released on vinyl, there were 500 records pressed total between two variants and a sick silkscreened side! And don’t forget the hand numbered screen-printed foldover jackets that the PIRATES had knocked out to house the special deluxe ‘tour version.’ Good luck getting your hands on one of those when the Pure Noise 10th Anniversary Tour rips through your town!

After more than 20 years leading Blind Pigs guitars and songwriting, Christian “Gordo” Targa (Vocals and Guitar), teamed up with Marcos Rolando (Bass) and Mário Rolim (Drums) in this newborn punk project. O PREÇO is a fresh start with a fat load of who composed some of the main classics of São Paulo 90’s punk. Their on stage debut is going to be September 7th (Brazilian “Independence” Day) in São Paulo, with their friends Fibonattis and Sandinistas. In their first album you’ll find 14 open-hearted tracks, they questioned politics and the social status quo, without forgetting the fun and everyday pleasures. Shaking loudspeakers with sharp strings and drums, screaming choruses at the top of our lungs. Check them out touring around Brasil if you can!
POUND started in the basement of a hospital in Missoula, MT. Surrounded by discarded medical tools and x-rays, it was meant to be just practice. With no intent on writing songs, they didn’t want to be a band and certainly didn’t want to play shows. Lots of exercises that they would drill for hours, eventually turned into some long-form compositions which that was played at a house party. After that, things just kind of clicked, a few years late moved to Seattle and played as many shows as possible – now on their third album, a 30 day tour starting soon, if you are into music based around decoupling the snare and the cymbal in the dbeat beat to create polyrhythms and hybrid picking on an extended range guitar, you’ll definitely want to catch POUND.
ARROWHEAD is fronted by guitar player, vocalist and chief songwriter Brett Pearl, who was brought up on a staple diet of classic rock. Joined by fellow purveyor of low-end in bass player/Viking Arron Fletcher, guitarist Raff Iacurto and living backbone of the band, Matt Cramp on drums, each member feeds into the ARROWHEAD-approved vision of hard rock reverie via Hollywood monsters and science fiction cinema. Together, they’ve forged an album that is equal parts venom and mysticism, and 100% blood-bound to steal your soul in the name of rock and roll. “Coven of the Snake” is the band’s 4th release overall and second on RIPPLE MUSIC, aka the house of heavy. “Hardcore is expression” reads the etching on the b-side of JOCKO’S debut 12”, ‘Expression’, out now via DOG YEARS RECORDS. This phrase is more than just a slogan for the band, as ‘Expression’ brings 11 songs which effortlessly blend the percussive energy of hardcore with the stylistic groove of 90’s hip hop. Mixed and mastered by hardcore recording engineer legend Don Fury, ‘Expression’ is available now at the DOG YEARS RECORDS webstore and directly from the band when they hit the road this summer and fall.
Stay safe out there!
