Stew – “People”
Spend your Friday relaxing with our RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog!!!
Formed in California in 2010 out of the blog The Ripple Effect, RIPPLE MUSIC rose to prominence as one of the world’s leading purveyors of stoner rock, doom, retro metal and heavy psych. Working with everyone from luminaries like Mothership and Mos Generator to underground stalwarts Zed and Plainride, RIPPLE is committed to promoting a new generation of riff-rockers who deal in all things heavy. Taking its cue from soul, psych, acid rock and all the good vibes coming from an unforgettable era that brought about what we now call cosmic rock, STEW have brought back a mastery of modern blues that is utterly soulful and filled with irresistible hooks. Markus Åsland’s hot and groovy vocals will lead your way through this promising debut album, which brilliantly explores the blues rock spectrum. The band’s first full album following their debut EP “Hot,” with 3 vinyl variants including 2 exclusive designs that will not be repressed beyond the initial 100 copies of each!

Formed in the summer of 2012 in a run down trailer by an old Tennessean highway, FLUMMOX was born in the name of all things weird, unusual, and completely insane. The brain child of two eccentric, magician, teenaged delinquents, Alyson Blake Dellinger & Drew Jones, the duo decided to create a band with no sense of genre labels, sound restrictions, or strict musical guidelines. FLUMMOX could be whatever they wanted it to be, and so far, it has been. FLUMMOX just announced the release of “Intellectual Hooliganism” via NEEDLEJUICE RECORDS. The followup to 2016’s acclaimed “Selcouth”, the progressive metal group have crafted an epic ode to outcasts, the anxious & the queer. This new record is a relentless barrage of heavy psychedelic riffs with surreal detours into methlab hoedowns and opossum biology.
Originally sold only at the live venue, and later sold to some stores only, PREDAWN’S first EP with 5 songs composed only of Japanese songs was released on 10 inch. A solo project by singer-songwriter Miwako Shimizu, this time, the mastering and the order of the songs have been changed separately from the CD for the analogization, and its a full blown record. Limited to 500, find out more at FLAKE SOUNDS!
Since forming as teenagers at the College of William & Mary in 2005, CAUSTIC CASANOVA have weathered lineup changes and life-threatening injuries while maintaining an aggressive DIY touring ethic, and their eclectic sound has made them a favorite in a crowded scene.
Following drummer/vocalist Stefanie Zaenker’s recovery from wrist injuries that nearly ended her ability to play, the band released the critically acclaimed LP Breaks in 2015 on Kylesa’s Retro Futurist Records, as well as a trio of EPs between 2013 and 2018 that paired original songs with classics from Pentagram, the Melvins and Weedeater. This hard work led to nominations for multiple Washington Area Music Awards in 2019, as well as a deal with MAGNETIC EYE RECORDS to release the much-anticipated new album. This record is the culmination of years of intense songwriting and touring, with some tunes going back nearly four years in live sets and going through lots of changes. Songs like “Fancy English,” “Filth Castle,” “Truth Syrup” and “Boxed and Crated” make it clear they’re a band that specializes first and foremost in massively heavy riffs and overwhelming sonic environments. SIGNAL HILL is a 4-piece instrumental rock band originally from Los Angeles, California. The band started back in 2004. Brian Vasallo (bass) and Rishi Arora (guitar) met via the “Musicians” listings on Craigslist. Meanwhile, Dave Masters (guitar) had been jamming with friend Tim Cooper (drums). Eventually the four connected through their shared experiences and appreciation of musical influences within genres such as indie rock, instrumental/post-rock, electronic music and jazz. They were able to quickly connect with one another and began making music shortly thereafter as SIGNAL HILL. This release is the 10-Year Anniversary release of the band’s first ever full length effort, “More After We’re Gone”. The original album was released in June 2009. The original album was on digital and CD formats only. The 10-Year Anniversary edition is a vinyl-only release, including fully updated artwork. SIGNAL HILL is currently planning an east coast and UK tour for the spring of 2020!
