Pig Destroyer – “38 Counts of Battery”
Take a break from the rat race with this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog!!!
Extreme sound nihilists PIG DESTROYER deliver savage grindcore that is both intentionally confrontational, and thoroughly pummeling. “38 Counts of Battery” is still an intense register of the band’s work as ever. Fully remastered and available on LP for the very first time, “38 Counts of Battery” features the remastered “Explosions in Ward 6” album, tracks from the highly sought-after (and sold out) split with Isis, their scalding demo, and much more. Keep tabs on the RELAPSE website for this PIG DESTROYER album in January to celebrate PD’s 20th anniversary!

Seattle’s pop-punk princess returns with her second record, “Perfect Love Song”. LISA PRANK is a true-blue romantic. On her second full-length for FATHER/DAUGHTER RECORDS, “Perfect Love Song”, Edwards acknowledges the ultimate joke of love: that there is no perfect, so you’ll get tripped up while chasing it—but what else could possibly be more rich, more exhilarating, more everything, skinned knees be damned? Stitching together pop-punk panache and pillow talk introspection, “Perfect Love Song” finds LISA PRANK not in pursuit of the flawless impossible, as the title may suggest. She began her full U.S. tour on Halloween and has shows with label-mates, Remember Sports, this November!

Jazz fusion outfit and musical collective HENNA ROSO have released their debut album, “Feed the Hungry”, on HORTON RECORDS. Frontman Taylor Graham and partner, Justin Dupuis, put together a sonic melting pot, meshing the sounds and sensibilities of jazz, funk, soul, and R&B to deliver a record that sounds like nothing else coming out this year. HENNA ROSO’S influences are clear, no matter the genre–the jazz stylings of Julian Lage, the jam band sensibilities of Trey Anastasio, the funk and soul vibes of George Clinton, and the fusion sounds of a band like Snarky Puppy. They never wear their influences on their sleeve, however, and while you can hear where they came from, it is evidently clear that HENNA ROSO are very much doing their own thing and making their own sounds. “Feed the Hungry” is a unique record with a sound that can only get better from here. Following their album release show at Cain’s Ballroom on September 6th, the band donated over 91,000 meals to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Since their inception in 2016, the band have raised over 87,000 meals to combat hunger, 22,000 of which were raised during their album release show on Friday, September 6th in conjunction with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. So go check them out and help fight hunger at the same time!
