Integrity – “Howling, For The Nightmare Shall Consume”
Get a comfortable chair becuase we’ve got an overflowing RECORD OF THE WEEK blog coming at you!
Known for being one of the most incendiary and influential bands in hardcore and modern metal history, apocalyptic heavy music icons INTEGRITY return with their highly anticipated, 12th studio album entitled “Howling, For The Nightmare Shall Consume.” A conceptual foretelling of the final days of Armageddon, “Howling…” is a manifestation of pentecostal nightmares and religious depravities, wrought with fire and brimstone sermons and occult prophecies bathed in waves of destruction. Now with almost 30 years of creating dark and terrifying anthems under their belt, INTEGRITY have honored their past musical legacy while fearlessly moving forward into unchartered territory on what is undoubtedly their most elaborate and ambitious effort to date.

GRIMACE FEDERATION, Philly’s post-rock/kraut-rock/pysch-synth band, has been a local favorite for many years and have been the creators of many instrumentals behind Aesop Rocks flow. For the first time since 2010 the group is releasing a full album of original music. Founded on a need to shift sound, vast musical influences and free-form improv sessions, the always evolving Philly unit has been armed with an arsenal of multi-layered, hallucinogenic beats and complex post-rock anthems. Their sonic collages create a symphonic, cinematic, and immense sound. With all their complexities, no words are needed to stir emotions, like a Robert Rauschenberg painting, a scene from a Jodorowsky film, or a drive down Mulholland.

Originally from Oregon, ANOTHER MUSICIAN (Craig Bidiman) was booking gigs and playing in other bands but felt like he had his own stories to tell. He was already a spoken word poet, but something was missing. So he learned how to play guitar, and eventually began crafting emotionally powerful songs that had a hint of acoustic punk to them. From there, fellow musicians began calling his unique brand of music, “spoken wordcore.” And now, another musician has sought out support from other musicians to release his third official piece of music, “Farewell.” Dedicated to his recently deceased father, Wayne Bidiman, and featuring an intricate silk screened B side – it truly is a work of passion.

10 years after their first release, TRAPPED UNDER ICE brings you “Heatwave”. This phat LP is short, fast and hardcore; the way Straight Ahead intended, but played more like Fury of Five and Breakdown at a backyard party. For punks who’ve considered throwing a spin kick in jean shorts. Rhythmically, “Heatwave” is like a trailer park Sepultura. Check it out if you fuck with what TUI has been doing for the last decade. The same, but different.

Amongst his 30+ year career as one half of the essential Melvins roster, DALE CROVER has contributed to countless albums ranging from platinum-plated classics (ahem, Nirvana) to seminal cult LPs. “The Fickle Finger Of Fate” marks CROVER’S first calculated, full length solo effort. Coming at you from JOYFUL NOISE RECORDINGS, “The Fickle Finger Of Fate” is surprisingly approachable— dare we say, catchy. But even at it’s most anthemic, you won’t be able to shake the feeling that a sinister ambience is hovering just beneath the surface.
