The Templars – “Deus Vult”
We’ve got some rad titles on this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK blog!
THE TEMPLARS are a band that needs little introduction. Since the early 90’s, their unique style and low-fi trademark ‘Acre’ sound have earned them true cult status in the punk and skinhead world. This new album, their first in more than 10 years, shows them at the top of their game, and still tough as nails – proving once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. This record came in a standard ‘Blood Red’ or ‘Blood Red’ and ‘Oxblood’ AsideBside with ‘Bone’ & ‘Black’ Splatter w/ Faux-leather Casewrapped Sleeve!

The latest comp from Portland’s own THE LOVECRAFT BAR is out! With corporate music’s artistic quality at an all time shitty low, putting out the underground bands that maybe cannot afford vinyl gets the music out there, gives the universe balance and an alternative to whatever nonsense the corporate machine churns out. It also hopefully builds attendance at these bands’ shows when they’re on tour. With a huge list of local Portland area bands on this comp’s roster, as you may know by now the best way to get your hands on one of these is to buy Jon the owner a drink (or five) and he’ll spin you a yarn and you’ll probably end up with a record, maybe even a criminal one if you hang with him long enough…

In early 2014, A Lot Like Birds’ guitarist/composer Michael Franzino launched a successful Indiegogo campaign to fund the inception of his solo endeavor / softer musical counterpart: ALONE. In an attempt to fully immerse himself into the creative process, the project entailed him intentionally isolating himself in a cabin somewhere in the Sierra Mountain Range for two months to compose the album. He then recorded what was written with engineer/producer Dryw Owens upon his return from the woods, and the result was the debut ALONE. LP aptly titled “Somewhere in the Sierras”. Featuring a minor key interpretation of the classic Jimmie Davis song “You Are My Sunshine”, it’s out now!

DONAHER’S debut LP contains ten power pop songs that are savagely sweet, contagiously cute, and packed with more hooks than a tackle box. “I Swear My Love Is True” is a record that defines the sound of falling in love and a pending heartbreak. Stand out tracks “Mandy Desmarais (Call Me Soon)”, “Heather”, and the pre-break up song, “No Other Dude”, features Matt Pryor from the Get Up Kids. You can find it available in three different colored versions, but you know that Half-N-Half version is calling your name…
