Windhand / Satan’s Satyr’s split
Here’s the last RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog for the year, and remember to cast your vote over at the Record of the Year contest!
Two of Virginia’s finest heavy bands team up for an amp-worshipping, acid trip from hell! Includes two brand new songs of smoldering gloom and grief from WINDHAND paired with three tracks of devilish, fuzz-drenched metal/punk from SATAN’S SATYR’S. An incredible display of dark synthpop composition, infectious arrangements and gothic lyricism that evokes vintage Depeche Mode at their most dramatic heights. Features current and former members of Zombi, Ulver, Guapo, and Maserati. Head over to RELAPSE RECORDS to grab one of these records while you still can!

Hailing from the lawless dominion that is our nation’s capital, GENOCIDE PACT unleash their raging sophomore full-length and RELAPSE RECORDS debut entitled “Order of Torment”. Recorded by Kevin Bernsten in Baltimore, MD at Developing Nations and featuring cover art from the legendary Joe Petagno, “Order of Torment” features eight tracks of pulverizing, relentless death metal that harkens to the greats while pushing the genre to chaotic new realms of possibility. With a thick, titanically heavy crunch that focuses on crushing groove as much as skull-splitting intensity, GENOCIDE PACT are THE death metal band to watch in 2018.
Mostly comprised of musicians from the New Zealand hardcore punk scene, REMOVALIST brought their intense breed of metallic hardcore to Melbourne, Australia in the early 2000s. Teaming up with drummer Harry, they have spent the past 6 years playing with punk, crust, hardcore and metal bands alike to form a presence in the DIY scene that is as hard working as it is crushing. It was here that they shared gigs and a strengthened friendship with their label, REASON AND RAGE RECORDS. Check out their self titled album out in January or go check them out as they start their tour the same time!
South Bay indie punk label, COLLISION COUSE RECORDS, releases THE EJECTOR SEATS fifth album in six years! Still writing catchy, bouncy, angry punk masterpieces! This record features a few more sneaky new wavy keyboardy bits that’ll worm their way deep into your subconscious, but it’s still a raw 70’s styled punk/early 80’s harcdore mix that whizzes by in about 15 minutes. PERFECT!
This is the first release from RUBEN VALE (aka SWOOP AND CROSS), a Portuguese musician and composer now living in London. This is an album of beautiful and nostalgic, electronically treated piano based music. Ranging from the more frail sounds of tracks like ‘Skopi’, to songs that mix beautifully delicate sounds with some elements of electronic music. This is a soundtrack to a romantic, silent film not yet made. It will be available in a deluxe, limited, hand made edition of 50 copies…and in a standard vinyl version of 200.
