The Low Anthem – “The Salt Doll Went To Measure The Depth Of The Sea”
Another out of sight RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog coming at ya!!
Formed in 2007 by Ben Knox Miller and Jeff Prystowsky, THE LOW ANTHEM grew from DIY ethos to semi-accidental success. Over the years the band had several releases, tours and a car crash that almost halted everything. Through this journey, THE LOW ANTHEM have boiled down their musical ideals and found their true voice. “The Salt Doll Went To Measure The Depth Of The Sea” is 12 short songs, at once fragile, nuanced, honest, and delicately purposeful. SPARTAN RECORDS proudly welcomes MAN MOUNTAIN to the family — a melodic, instrumental post-rock outfit from Southeast Michigan. MAN MOUNTAIN’S debut record “Infinity Mirror” is a journey of emotive dynamics set against a swirling dreamlike ferocity. Song by song, the album progresses with an intentionality that allows delicate melodies, motifs, and nuances to build into quaking full-band aggression. Thematically, the album presents a constant duality. Sonically translated, this pondering plays as understated notes and moments reverberating into upheaval and dissonance.
For the past few years Delaware’s SCORCHED have steadily built a reputation for classic savage Northeast style Death Metal. Skullcaving heaviness, video-nasty warped synth interludes and a cinematic taste for the gruesome and murderous. They are playing Migration Fest in Pittsburgh in July 2018 with planned shows before and after as well. ‘Excavated…’ collects the band’s sadistic 2017 promo tape ‘Hymns From The Cellar’ on the A-side and the ferocious 2015 demo on the B-side. It acts as a prelude to their forthcoming 2nd full length album due on 20 BUCK SPIN this summer.
