Kicking off this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK blog is the debut from the Bay Area’s most exciting, and most talked about new band – CHARGER! These veteran musical heavyweights (including Matt Freeman from RANCID!) got together to just challenge themselves musically – and unexpectedly, this GREAT band ended up being the result! …in the vein of bands like INEPSY, WOLFBRIGADE, SPEEDWOLF and others, these crazy talented musicians dove deep into their youthful roots, channeling the likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and of course Motörhead to create a powerful [and screamingly unique] sound that music fans spanning all subgenres of punk, thrash, metal and classic rock can appreciate.
This album is one of 2019’s most highly anticipated releases, PERIOD. (Let alone for our own in-house label, Pirates Press Records!)
Highlighting the work of two incredible local Bay Area tattoo artists (Sonju Rattler and Freddy Corbin), this packaging of this debut EP is classic and timeless – and the YELLOW & BLACK “Galaxy” vinyl was a no brainer – EVIL as it gets! Add in a digipak CD, cassette with a 3 panel J-card, and 2 promotional PICTURE FLEXIS to the mix – collectors rejoice!!
We couldn’t stop there though! Helping fill out one-hell of a merch table for their upcoming record release show, we also printed up several different t-shirts and made woven and silkscreened patches, a coffee mug, knit scarf, enamel pin, buttons, two posters, a sticker – and even a LIMITED EDITION bundle with a special branded bag of CHARGER COFFEE, roasted by our friends down the street in Emeryville at McLaughlin Coffee! MURMUR comes from the creative minds of veteran musicians Peter Morcey (100 Demons, Forced Reality) and Ryan Patrick White (Call It Arson, Jagged Visions). Pioneers in the underground CT hardcore scene, the duo has united for a complete departure from their roots with a dark, moody musical journey built on acoustic guitars with gorgeous harmonies, orchestral strings and subtle instrumentation. Artwork for the record was created by Jacob Bannon of revered hardcore band Converge. MURMUR‘s debut album, ‘The Boundless Black’, is a slow and haunting journey through love, loss, and ancient folklore…all the while the light of beauty and grace shining through. A lush tour through the cold, dark winter of life, while staying devoid of fear and riding tandem with faith and hope. Check their vinyl release party this June in Connecticut!

YEAR OF THE KNIFE is straightedge hardcore band hailing from Delaware having formed in 2015. Members include Brandon Watkins (guitar), Madi Watkins (bass), Andrew Kisielewski (drums), Aaron Kisielewski (guitar), and Tyler Mullen (vocals). Their first release on PURE NOISE, ’Ultimate Aggression’ is a collection of both previous EP’s – Ultimate Disease (2017) and First State Aggression (2018) – along with a new track “Fatal”. The album covers hard-hitting topics including police brutality and addiction. Get out their and catch them headlining a UK/EU tour with Chamber – May 17 – June 1, 2019!
