Monster Squad – “Fire the Faith”
Another banging’ RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog coming at you !!!
MONSTER SQUAD formed in Vacaville, CA in January 1997. Touring somewhat heavily back then, US and Europe. “Fire the Faith” was originally released in 2007 on Punk Core Records, the original 500 LPs have been out of print since that batch sold out around 2008. This new and improved version contains a Flexi with an unreleased track from the studio sessions, as well as a random-ass techno remix that a co-worker made for fun when the album was recorded. VOLTAGE RECORDS in Europe has their own color, as does BOULEVARD TRASH RECORDS in the States. Checkout MONSTER SQUAD at their re-release shows next weekend in Sacramento or at FYWROK in Tulsa this July!

Stranger Attractor is a 2-member band based in Indianapolis featuring members of many other amazing bands such as Skeletonwitch, Demiricous, Chrome Waves, Emotion Zero, The Dream Is Dead, and more. Their danceable dark synthwave music is riding a huge wave in the Midwest (and Indianapolis especially) of a large emerging scene in this genre. This release was limited as an official Record Store Day 2019 title, and had a 90% sell-through on Record Store Day. This 7″ is a two-song EP recorded and engineered by Carl Byers at Clandestine Arts and pressed to blood-splattered colored vinyl. As with all RSD titles, you kinda had to be there to get one…
HIDDEN VOLUME RECORDS officially started 2014 in Baltimore, Maryland and is dedicated to garage rock, power pop, psych and anything cool. THis 7” features JAKE STARR & THE DELICIOUS FULLNESS from DC and THEE LEXINGTON ARROWS from Baltimore. Both songs feature Kathleen Wilson on vocals who is the lead singer/guitarist for Thee Lexington Arrows. The record was originally titled “Dusty and Smokey” and featured a Smokey Robinson tune but THEE ARROWS didn’t like their recording so they recorded a version of “Gimme Shelter” —a long time closing tune of their live set. Also, the record is HIDDEN VOLUME’S 16th official release (they are on 50 now) but took 4 years to come out due to various delays. Never say die!
DIEGO VASALLO is an artist in the truest sense, expressing his feelings in music, lyrics, writing, and in painting. He has always been experimental in his art, yet grounded in pop so that his art can be enjoyed easily by the masses. DIEGO VASALLO first gained notoriety when he joined together with Mikel Erentxun and Juan Ramon to form the 80’s synth pop group Duncan Dhu. The legendary trio toured the globe for 20 years from 1984 to 2001 releasing nine great studio albums. DIEGO VASALLO’S experimental attitude toward music and ability to work in any genre of music, and collaborate with even the most unique performers is on display on “Sesiones de Moon River Vol 1”. Lose yourself in the music as DIEGO does. Let the album be the soundtrack for an introspective journey just as DIEGO travels vocally, and musically. Head over to HIP LATIN MUSIC today!
CORRETJA has been pushing the limits of metal genres and drum machines since the late 90s. This latest record, “Life Aggressively”, is a blast of melodic death metal in the vein of classic Metallica and Converge on side A, and a love letter to the bands that formed the Corretja sound on side B. From industrial (Skinny Puppy’s “Grave Wisdom”) to techno-pop (Real Life’s “Send Me An Angel”) and back through an embarrassing goth phase (Sisters of Mercy) and into Tori Amos, we pay homage to our not-so-dark overlords by covering the classics in their brutal style. After releasing three successful LP’s with the fan-adored band Sullivan and dozens of solo tracks over the past ten years, songs seem to emanate from all levels of Brooks Paschal’s consciousness. However, Paschal’s new project SURPRISES is something different. It is cathartic, it is reckless, and it is personal — a striking new narrative from a familiar voice. “Natural Disaster” is a concentrated amalgamation of all the driving, melodic, soaring, and fragile moments that made Paschal’s previous work so appealing, but with instincts driving all direction, we’re thrust into a new and unchartered creative territory. Grab one of these Neon colored LPs from SPARTAN RECORDS before they sell out!
