The Bar Stool Preachers – “DLTDHYOTWO” Picture Flexis
Are you ready for this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog?!?!!
“DLTDHYOTWO,” or rather, “Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out” is one of the tracks from THE BAR STOOL PREACHERS’ latest album “Grazie Governo” out now on PIRATES PRESS RECORDS! The Preachers loudly let their feelings of disdain known (and quite frankly, a shared sentiment of many others) for Theresa May and 45 who so ungracefully appear on these new picture flexis which will be available on their massive amount of tour dates in both the UK and US. The band themselves handed out the Teresa May version while busking outside of Parliament and Downing Street and the Orange Clown version will be available on their upcoming US tour!
These picture flexis (much like the tens of thousands we’ve manufactured already!) allow artists to add full color artwork to flexis. Due to their convenient pricing, size, and weight, picture flexis can be used in so many ways – whether it’s as a standalone release, in of a merch spread, inserted in a record, bound into a magazine, added as part of a mailer, or handed out at a show, they’re a great tool for bands! The Bar Stool Preachers have distributed all of their previous picture flexis (6 different ones in total!) virtually every way you possibly can imagine and gained thousands of new fans around the world from doing so! With a multi-layered sound running the gamut from pummeling grind and death metal to dissonant blackened metal, angular noise and complex hardcore, IMMORTAL BIRD defy simple categorization. The band’s compositions fuse into strikingly savage songs, vast in their scope and more than the sum of their disparate parts, merging the progressive and destructive into a maelstrom of raging fire. Rae Amitay’s seething vocal exorcisms and targeted lyrical aggression providing the connective tissue holding the stylized violence together. Head over to 20 BUCK SPIN to grab their latest LP, “Thrive on Neglect” right now!

After years of individual success in some of the scene’s most beloved bands, THE DARLING FIRE was born of both deep struggle and deeper friendships. A veritable mosaic of indie notoriety, the band features members or ex-members of The Rocking Horse Winner, Further Seems Forever, Dashboard Confessional, Poison The Well, Shai Hulud, As Friends Rust, and Strongarm among others. The debut album, “Dark Celebration”, is in many ways what you’d anticipate — energetic, powerful, melodic, and heavy; however, it is far more nuanced than you would imagine. The collective sum of the parts and the alluring heart-on-sleeve lyrics produce a more intimate, spacey and bewitching experience — an authenticity that speaks to the true cathartic nature of the project. The result of their collaboration with producer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Government Issue) is a powerful coalescence of artistry and vision — a record that five artists spent their entire careers waiting to make.

Psych-punk psychic warrior, ear worm-farmer, and possessor of many stamped passport pages John Dwyer does not let up. His group OH SEES (aka THEE OH SEES, OCS, THE OH SEES, etc) have transmogrified to fit many a moment – from hushed druggy folk to groovy demonic pop chants to science fictional krautrock expanse and beyond – to suit his omnivorous whims. Originally released on hand lathed 6”s, then double 7”s, by Rock Is Hell Records in Austria, CASTLE FACE has reissued it on 12” for the first time and in this limited color! Encased in a brown paper wrapping like a forgotten bit of smut from behind the beaded curtain, this unassuming disc is a time-capsule back to Dwyer’s early SF days, janglingly fingerpicked wisps of melody and electronics baking in the all-too anemic sunshine of San Francisco’s elusive summer. Like a seashell to the ear I can hear within it Baker Beach bike ride excursions, holding court and gently harassing passers-by on a Haight street stoop, and midnight rambles with friends from out of town, daring the sun to come up. Somewhere chronologically between the folky whisper of Songs about Death and Dying and the recently reissued Cool Death of Island Raiders, this one’s been vexing to find for way too long and we’ve decided to give it “the treatment”. May it awaken the gentle glow of possibility dappled with the dancing shadow of danger that it stirs around this castle. Catch THE OHSEES on tour starting in October!
