Catbite – S/T
Roll into the weekend with this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog!!!
CATBITE hails from Philadelphia, PA and plays a soulful blend of ska and garage punk, formed in 2018 and includes former members of THE SNAILS / THE DULL BLUE LIGHTS, and THE UP! UP! UPS! Since it’s inception, BAD TIME RECORDS has sought to shine a light on some of the best up and coming Ska Punk bands in the country. CATBITE’S self titled debut record is 8 tracks of ska, rocksteady, and punk, dripping with soul and plenty of reverb. It’s a high energy dance party from front to back, spurred on by the catchy and soulful melodies of singer Brittany Luna and the razor sharp guitar chops of Tim Hildebrand. In addition to the tight bass and drum duo of Johnny Mick and Chris Pires, the record also features guest appearances from Dave Hillyard on Sax (THE SLACKERS, DAVID HILLYARD & THE ROCKSTEADY 7) and Esteban Flores on keyboard (MATAMOSKA). Anyone with a passing interest in 70’s punk, two tone ska, or raw rock & roll will be right at home with this promising debut release. Go see CATBITE at one of the few select shows they have coming up!

Released originally on RAT CAGE RECORDS, NYC’s true underground record label/store, you can only get this from the band on tour right now! Not available in stores, this release is a very special 35 Year Anniversary re-issue. Limited and available at selective 35 Year Anniversary shows!
WOLVES AT THE GATE is a post-hardcore band out of Columbus, Ohio. Since 2008 the band’s reputation has been built on a foundation of lyrical authenticity and sonic evolution—both easily identifiable in their fourth studio release, ‘Eclipse’. After that, the project reflects a whole new side of WOLVES AT THE GATE. Where each previous record honed in and peeled apart a specific emotion, ‘Eclipse’ pursues them all. Where each previous record featured one guitarist, their newest now has two. Out now on SOLID STATE RECORDS, ‘Eclipse’ tells one major story in a myriad of ways: don’t let what’s real be hidden by darkness…
THE LAZY SUSANS formed in The Blue Mountains (NSW) in early 2017 and made a name for themselves playing constant shows all over Australia. The band had an outstanding response to their first EP ‘Closure’ attracting the attention of their now label RESIST RECORDS. The band have now relocated to Melbourne and with the amazing help of Resist, have released their first LP album ‘Now That The Party’s Over’. This album follows the up’s and down’s of mental health, relationships and any other difficulties life can throw at us. It’s a tale of trying your best to look after yourself while trying to look after your mates and loved ones. The theme is care, love & introverted emotion. If you’re in Australia, you better get out to the ‘Now The Party’s Over’ national album tour – October 3rd-19th!
YEAR OF THE FIST formed in 2011 in Oakland, California and has released 3 studio albums and been on multiple compilations over the years. Their Punk – Rock ‘n Roll sound has lead away from them being pigeon-holed into any specific genre by blurring the lines between them. This has given them the opportunity to perform with many different styles and artists from L7 to The Vibrators and Save Ferris to The Legendary Shack Shakers. YEAR OF THE FIST is an active national and international touring band. This is YEAR OF THE FIST’s 3rd released and has been released via, Hal & Squeaky’s new label, HEART ON RECORDS. An 11 song album of all new music from YOTF including some new hits, a song by the drummer and what was once described as a “Piano Power Rock Ballad” plus a hidden track on CD and Digital copies only!
