Throughout December, we are looking back on the epic year that was 2019 here at PIRATES PRESS & our in-house label, PIRATES PRESS RECORDS! We celebrated our 15th anniversary in a big way this past October with the totally insane ROCK THE SHIP FESTIVAL, all while keeping up the business of pressing the most cutting-edge vinyl & merch in the world! Let’s take another look back at some of the most epic pressings we’ve manufactured this year, as featured on this very blog every week!
You know the PIRATES aren’t the kind of crew that rests on our laurels, though! You may already recognize the song from the above video as the RIPPING new single from East Bay rock & rollers CHARGER! The rabidly-awaited follow up to the universally acclaimed debut from this power trio featuring members of such legendary bands as RANCID, OPERATION IVY, JELLO BIAFRA & THE GUANTANAMO SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, UK SUBS, and many more has arrived to further blow minds among the faithful of punx, metalheads, rockers, and MOTÖRHEAD acolytes! A couple weeks ago on this very blog, we featured the picture flexi edition of this single that came with the new T-shirts and back patches available from the PIRATES PRESS RECORDS webstore. At that time, we said to stay tuned for the single to resurface as a slab of vinyl, and it has arrived, and you won’t BELIEVE how cool it is!
PIRATES PRESS is leading the CHARGE (I’m so sorry) with an incredible new process of UV PRINTING DIRECT TO VINYL! We unveiled this new format with THE DROWNS’ 12″ single “HOLD FAST / DEMONS” back in October, and fans & collectors alike went wild! What may appear at first to be a standard picture disc is actually a slab of real vinyl, with the art printed directly to it! Since this process prints direct to real vinyl, it allows for significantly greater audio fidelity than a picture disc…these things SOUND as incredible as they look! Perhaps the coolest visual aspect of this process is that we can create incredible effects like transparent elements to the art. In the case of this “WATCH YOUR BACK,” give the record some backlighting and watch as the red eyes of the CHARGER ram “GLOW” an evil red!
